Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r Einarsson<\/strong> from Golf Club Kj\u00f6lur in Mosfellsb\u00e6r, Iceland and Tinna J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir,<\/strong> from Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Iceland are the 2014 Icelandic Match Play Champions.<\/p>\n

The Match Play Championship in Iceland is part of a 7 tournament Tour, the Eimskips Series in Iceland, a Tour in which exclusively Iceland\u00b4s best golfers participate.<\/p>\n

The Shipping Company Eimskip is the largest sponsor, thus the Series and the main event The Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play, which will take place on the Leirdals course (golfcourse of GKG = The Golf Club of K\u00f3pavogur and Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r) on July 24th-27th bear the companies name.<\/p>\n

Each tournament in addition bears a name of one of the other main sponsors of the Eimskips Series, thus the Icelandic Tournament in Match Play 2014 is also referred to as the Securitas Tournament.<\/p>\n

The Icelandic Match Play Championship is the 4th and the Icelandic Stroke Play Championship will be the 5th event in the 7 tournament Eimskip Series.<\/p>\n

The Icelandic Match Play Championship is a 4 day tournament, which commenced June 26th and closed, Sunday June 29th and took place on Golf Club Keili\u00b4s\u00a0 (GK\u00b4s) golf course, Hvaleyrarv\u00f6llur in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n

There were 32 male and 32 women golfers, i.e. those with the highest point score from the 3 preceding Eimskip Series tournaments who started the competition, divided into 8 groups of 4.<\/p>\n

The top two golfers from each group advanced to the 16 finalist elimination held on Saturday morning, the\u00a0 quarter finals played in the afternoon of Saturday and subsequently the Semi-finals took place Sunday morning, June 29th and the Finals were held on the afternoon of Sunday.<\/p>\n

Match Play is played during all 4 days of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The results of this years\u00a0 men\u00b4s quarter finals were as follows:<\/em><\/p>\n

1. match Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r Einarsson<\/b>, GKJ won Birgir Leifur Haf\u00fe\u00f3rsson, GKG, 2&0.<\/p>\n

2. match Haraldur Frankl\u00edn Magn\u00fas<\/b> , GR won Hei\u00f0ari Dav\u00ed\u00f0, GHD 3&1.<\/p>\n

3. match Stef\u00e1n M\u00e1r Stef\u00e1nsson, GR <\/b>won Benedikt \u00c1rni Har\u00f0arson, GK, 3&2.<\/p>\n

4. match Bjarki P\u00e9tursson<\/b>, GB, won R\u00fanar Arn\u00f3rsson, GK \u00a01&0.<\/p>\n

The results of this years in women\u00b4s quarter finals were the following:<\/p>\n

1. match\u00a0Hei\u00f0a Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir<\/b>, GKJ \u00a0won Sunna V\u00ed\u00f0isd\u00f3ttir, GR on the 19 th hole<\/p>\n

2. match Karen Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir,<\/b> GS won Sign\u00fd Arn\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir, GK 1&0<\/p>\n

3. match\u00a0Tinna J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir<\/b>, GK won Berglind Bj\u00f6rnsd\u00f3ttur, GR 3&1<\/p>\n

4. leikur\u00a0Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Br\u00e1 Bj\u00f6rgvinsd\u00f3ttir<\/b>, GK won Ragnhildur Kristinsd\u00f3ttur, GR 3&2<\/p>\n

The results in the men\u00b4s Semi-finals were as follows:<\/p>\n

1. match Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r Einarsson<\/b>, GKJ won Haraldur Frankl\u00edn Magn\u00fas, GR, 2&1.<\/p>\n

2. match Bjarki P\u00e9tursson<\/b>, GB, won Stef\u00e1n M\u00e1r Stef\u00e1nsson on the 20th hole.<\/b><\/p>\n

The women\u00b4s Semi-finals were a bit special this year, due to the fact that sisters, Karen and Hei\u00f0a competed against each other on one hand and on the other the cousins Tinna and Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Br\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Thus in the men\u00b4s Finals this year Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r Einarsson played against Bjarki P\u00e9tursson and in the women\u00b4s Finals Tinna J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir competed against Karen Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir.<\/p>\n

Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r won his match against Bjarki 2&1 and Tinna her match against Karen 5&4.<\/p>\n

The Icelandic Women\u00b4s Champion in Match Play, Tinna J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir, is born May 17th 1986.\u00a0 She started playing golf 12 years old, when she went to a golf clinic\u00a0 for youngsters held at Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.\u00a0 Many of Tinna\u00b4s relatives in Iceland are excellent golfers and many have won Icelandic Championship titles.\u00a0 In an interview with Golf 1 Tinna stated that it was much easier saying that the only one in her family that didn\u00b4t play golf was her grandmother. Tinna played golf in the US for 4 years during her College years in the University of San Francisco from where she graduated with a degree in International Studies 2011.\u00a0 She a.o. took part in LET\u00b4s Q-school 2012 and has played on the LET Access Series.\u00a0 Here you can see a LET interview with Tinna CLICK HERE: \u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

This was the first time Tinna won the Icelandic Championship title in Match Play, but she won the Icelandic Championship title in Stroke Play in 2010.<\/p>\n

The Icelandic Men\u00b4s Champion in Match Play, Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r Einarsson<\/strong>, is born January 11th 1988.<\/p>\n

He started playing golf 10 years old and has always been a member of Golf Club Kj\u00f6lur (GKJ) in Mosfellsb\u00e6r, with the exception of 2012, when he a.o.won the Club Championship title at Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur during an exciting final round, where he carded 9 birdies and had a fantastic score of 62 with an unforgettable 9 hole sudden death battle with Axel B\u00f3asson, GK.\u00a0 Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r is the current (2013) Club Champion at GKJ.\u00a0 Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r has participated in all of the 4 tournament of the Eimskips Series this year, his best result being 2nd place at the 3rd tournament in Borgarnes, where he a.o. carded back to back excellent rounds of 3 under par, 68\u00b4s.<\/p>\n

Kristj\u00e1n is former Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play 2008 (which was held in the Westman Islands)\u00a0 and in Match Play 2009 (held at the White River Course, in Icelandic: Ki\u00f0jabergsv\u00f6llur in the south of Iceland).\u00a0 Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r played golf in the US with the Geaux Colonels at Nicholls State in Louisiana 2010-2012, where he studied psychology (You can see his achievements at Nicholls State by CLICKING HERE:)<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0It\u00b4s\u00a0 truly unbelievable and profoundly incomprehensible that Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r, one of Icelands best golfer was not the choice of the Icelandic National Golf Trainer and didn\u00b4t make it to Team Iceland this year.\u00a0 Kristj\u00e1n \u00de\u00f3r\u00b4s fianc\u00e9e is\u00a0 Mar\u00fd Vald\u00eds Gylfad\u00f3ttir<\/strong> and they have a daughter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
