One of the most popular open tournaments in Iceland, The Icelandair Volcano Open<\/strong> came to an end today, July 8th 2012, on the beautiful Westmanna Islands golfcourse. The course is a favorite among many of Iceland\u00b4s best golfers aswell as among those who aren\u00b4t as skillful in the art of golf. The tournament was being held July 5th – July 8th. The Westmanna Islands golfcourse is a course golfers of all skills enjoy and the view from the golfcourse is both unique and breathtaking!<\/p>\n

GV is the abbreviation for Golfkl\u00fabbur Vestmannaeyja or Golf Club of the Westmanna Islands as you may have guessed. It\u00b4s Iceland\u00b4s 3rd oldest Golf Club, founded 1938, only the Clubs in Akureyri and Reykjav\u00edk are older. It\u00b4s one of Iceland\u00b4s most loved golfcourses and you\u00b4ll sense the reason once you play golf on the course. It\u00b4s a unique experience which can hardly be compared to any other! Thursday, July 5th was a practice round and then the two tournament \u00a0rounds of 18 holes were played on Friday and Saturday. This was \u00a0Stableford points competition \u00a0and the competitors were devided into two groups hcp:. 0-14.4 and hcp. 14.5-28.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Saturdaynight, there was a big party as you\u00b4ll find nowhere else in the world except in the Westmanna Islands and those who played best got their rewards. Earlier today. \u00a0those who still were in shape and wanted to play an extra round could do so.<\/p>\n

The Icelandair Volcano Open is an experience every golfer dreams of and the only bad part about it is that there\u00b4s a whole year until the next tournament will be held in July 2013. \u00a0 You should most definately put the Icelandair Volcano Open on you TO DO LIST \u00a0aswell as visiting Iceland and the Westmanna Islands.<\/p>\n
