{"id":39588,"date":"2012-11-19T18:30:37","date_gmt":"2012-11-19T18:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.golf1.is\/?p=39588"},"modified":"2013-01-13T12:42:49","modified_gmt":"2013-01-13T12:42:49","slug":"reflection-on-what-happened-in-the-week-may-28th-june-3rd-in-golf-in-iceland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.golf1.is\/en\/reflection-on-what-happened-in-the-week-may-28th-june-3rd-in-golf-in-iceland\/","title":{"rendered":"Reflection on what happened in the week May 28th- June 3rd 2012 in Golf in Iceland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In the week May 28th-June 3rd 2012 the golfsummer in Iceland was starting and most Golf Clubs, which close during the winter time had by now opened anew. \u00a0There are many open golf tournaments in Iceland during the summer in which everyone, who has handicap 36 \u00a0(unless otherwise mentioned) and pays the rather low tournament fee in most cases, can participate. Foreign golfers are welcome &#8211; and if you come to Iceland you should at least try to participate in 1 tournament, just to get the experience of having played in an Icelandic golf tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only a few of the huge variety of the golf flora tournaments in 2012 in Iceland can be mentioned here, for reflections sake &#8211; this is by no means a complete list of every tournament held this week in Iceland or what was happening during that week in Icelandic golf in general:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most notable tournament this week from May 27th &#8211; May 28th was the 1st tournament on the Eimskip Series, a 6 tournament Series, including the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play and the Icelandic Championship in Match Play. All and only the best golfers in Iceland take part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first tournament on the Eimskip Series this year took place in Golf Club Su\u00f0urnesja (GS) in Keflav\u00edk. There were extreme windy conditions so the tournament first got delayed and eventually shortened to a 2 day event, yet usually there are 3 rounds of golf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The winners of this first tournament in the Eimskip Series were\u00a0<strong>Birgir Leifur Haf\u00fe\u00f3rsson<\/strong>, golf pro and <strong>\u00d3laf\u00eda \u00de\u00f3runn Kristinsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, who had just returned from North Carolina, where she studies and plays on Wake Forest\u00b4s golfteam and had to play in totally different conditions, a much colder and windier one than she had grown used in the former months.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52360\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf1.is\/en\/reflection-on-what-happened-in-the-week-may-28th-june-3rd-in-golf-in-iceland\/23-snb16029-630x472-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52360\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52360\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52360\" title=\"\u00d3laf\u00eda \u00de\u00f3runn Kristinsd\u00f3ttir with father and kaddy Kristinn G\u00edslason at GS in the 1st tournament of the Eimskip Series in Iceland held May 27th-28th. Photo: Golf 1<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were 132 participants in this first tournament on the Eimskip Series, 106 men and 26 women. Golfers were divided in groups of 3 according to handicap and played according to the Stabbleford system. The winners of the tournament were\u00a0<strong>Huginn Helgason<\/strong>, Golf Club of the Westmanna Islands (abbrev. GV in Iceland). There were only 17 participants, 13 men and 4 women and the winner was <strong>Hulda Magn\u00fasard\u00f3ttir<\/strong>. Photo: Golf 1<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also on Saturday June 2nd in the South of Iceland there was the \u201eConstantly Happy Sailor Competition&#8221; (in Icelandic: Sj\u00f3arinn S\u00edk\u00e1ti) held at Golf Club Grindav\u00edk (abbreviated GG in Icelandic) also commemorating the Day of the Sailors in Iceland. There are two Series &#8211; a 1st tier Juniors Tour sponsored by Arion bank and a 2nd tier Challenge Tour also sponsored by Arion bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Juniors on both Tournament series are divided according into the following agegroups: Aged 14 yrs and younger; 15-16 yrs and 17-18 yrs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main difference between the Arion Junior Tour and the Challenge Tour is that the latter only play 18 holes i.e. 1 round of golf while the first mentioned play 2 rounds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Saturday June 2nd the juniors on the Challenge Tour played at the Golf Club of Sandger\u00f0i (abbreviated.: GSG) and the juniors on the Arion Junior Tour \u00a0played their first round at \u00dever\u00e1 golfcourse i(in Icelandic: \u00dever\u00e1rv\u00f6llur) in Hellish\u00f3lar by Hvolsv\u00f6llur, in the South of Iceland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To make a long story short the winners on this 2nd tournament of the Challenge Tour were:<strong> Kinga Korpak<\/strong>, GS (girls aged 14 yrs and younger); <strong>Axel Da\u00f0i Reynisson<\/strong>, GK (boys aged 14 yrs and younger); <strong>Salv\u00f6r \u00cdsberg J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, NK (girls aged 15-16); <strong>\u00dalfur \u00de\u00f3r Egilsson<\/strong>, GS (boys aged 15-16) and <strong>J\u00f6kull Schi\u00f6th<\/strong> (boys 17-18). There was no one competing in the agegroup girls 17-18.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The winners at the 1st tier Arion bank Juniors Tour were: <strong>\u00de\u00f3ra Krist\u00edn Ragnarsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, GK (girls aged 14 yrs and younger); <strong>Henning Darri \u00de\u00f3r\u00f0arson<\/strong>, GK (boys aged 14 yrs and younger); <strong>Gunnhildur Kristj\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, GKG (girls aged 15-16); <strong>Aron Sn\u00e6r J\u00fal\u00edusson<\/strong>, GKG (boys aged 15-16); <strong>Gu\u00f0r\u00fan P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, GR (girls 17-18) and <strong>Ragnar M\u00e1r Gar\u00f0arsson<\/strong> (boys 17-18).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52368\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf1.is\/en\/reflection-on-what-happened-in-the-week-may-28th-june-3rd-in-golf-in-iceland\/samsung-digital-camera-5842\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52368\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52368\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52368\" title=\"Kinga Korpak, GS. Photo: Golf 1<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00d3lafur Bj\u00f6rn Loftsson<\/strong>, Golf Club Nes (NK in Icelandic) participated in the Carrick Neil Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship, June 1st through June 3rd 2012. \u00a0\u00d3lafur Bj\u00f6rn had a combined score of 292 strokes (71 74 77 70), and the venue was Kilmarnock golfcourse in Scotland. He finished in 15th position which is quite good, considering that the tournament had a strong field.
