The big 18 hole golfcourses in Reykjav\u00edk and surrounding towns have now opened their gates to golf anxious golfers, who are basically starved for a round of golf after a long and hard winter here in Iceland.<\/p>\n

Grafarholt golfcourse in Reykjav\u00edk belonging to Iceland\u00b4s oldest golfclub (founded in 1935); the Golfclub of Reykjav\u00edk (GR) openened this week, to be exact on Labor Day, May 1st.<\/p>\n

Members of the Club got the honor to play the first round and the golfcourse is only open to members these first days of May.<\/p>\n

Golf 1 was present when Iceland\u00b4s oldest and probably most revered golfcourse, Grafarholt opened and shot a few photos a.o. of some of the more exotic members, great fans of John Daly (see the photo above).<\/p>\n

What caught the eye, where new signs here and there around the golfcourse, probably contributions by some of GR\u00b4s largest sponsors here in Iceland: Eimskip (Iceland\u00b4s biggest shipping company) and EuroCard.<\/p>\n

Eimskip is also sponsoring a series of tournaments where the best golfers in Iceland compete the so called \u201eEimskipsm\u00f3tar\u00f6\u00f0in” or the \u201eEimskip series”<\/p>\n

When you come to Iceland and play Grafarholt golfcourse, which you should absolutely do, you will not miss the new sign on the 1. tee. \u00a0There it says in Icelandic: \u201eMe\u00f0alh\u00f6gglengd kylfinga \u00e1 Eimskipsm\u00f3tar\u00f6\u00f0inni me\u00f0 driver er 270 metra.”<\/p>\n

You probably understood that, didn\u00b4t you?<\/p>\n

Just in case you didn\u00b4t let me translate that for you, it says: \u201eThe average drivingdistance of a golfer on the Eimskip series with driver is 270 meters (295 yards).”<\/p>\n

You\u00b4ll probably know now what is written below, well just in case, it says: \u201eMe\u00f0alh\u00f6gglengd kylfinga \u00e1 PGA m\u00f3tar\u00f6\u00f0inni me\u00f0 driver er 295 metra.”<\/p>\n

\u201eThe average drivingdistance of a golfer on the PGA Tour with driver is 295 meters (323 yards).”<\/p>\n
