Six girls from the Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur competed in the\u00a0Irish Girls U-18 Open Stroke Play Championship, held at Roganstown Hotel & Golf Club, in County Meath, Ireland, where you\u00b4ll also find the fabulous Nicklaus designed Killeen Castle golfcourse, venue of the Solheim Cup 2011. \u00a0The\u00a0Irish Girls U-18 Open Stroke Play Championship was held 21st-22nd of April 2012.<\/p>\n
After the first two rounds played on April 21st there was a cut and only the 3 best players of each team continued. \u00a0Hildur R\u00fan Gu\u00f0j\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, H\u00f6gna Kristbj\u00f6rg Kn\u00fatsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong> and Sara Margr\u00e9t Hinriksd\u00f3ttir<\/strong> didn\u00b4t make the cut this time so Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Br\u00e1 Bj\u00f6rgvinsd\u00f3ttir, Saga \u00cdsafold Arnarsd\u00f3ttir and Anna S\u00f3lveig Snorrad\u00f3ttir continued to play on the 2nd day.<\/p>\n Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Br\u00e1 Bj\u00f6rgvinsd\u00f3ttir <\/strong>played best of the team from Keilir, Iceland; was in 4th place after the 1st round and carded a top-10 finish, i.e. was T-9 with a combined score of 229 strokes (73 76 80) in the end.<\/p>\n Anna S\u00f3lveig Snorrad\u00f3ttir<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>had a combined score of 249 strokes (82 86 81 ) and ended up in 46th place and \u00a0\u00a0Saga \u00cdsafold Arnarsd\u00f3ttir <\/strong>had a combined score of\u00a0253 strokes (87 78 88) and ended up in 49th place.<\/p>\n One of the amazing Maguire twins from Ireland won, i.e.\u00a0Leona Maguire<\/strong>\u00a0with an impressive margin of 8 strokes from France\u00b4s \u00a0Manon Molle<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Matthilda Cappeliez<\/strong>, who shared 2nd place.<\/p>\n Here in Iceland we are all proud of \u201eour girls” competing in the tournament and hope that there will be more opportunities for our youth to compete abroad all year round, where the weather conditions are better than here in Iceland.
