It\u00b4s good to take a few minutes to reflect and take stock of what happened this past week in the world of golf and what\u00b4s on in the near future. Most of the newscoverage this past week has been on\u00a0Bubba Watson<\/strong>, winning the Masters at Augusta National with an incredible hook shot, lifting him to a status of “folk hero” in the States, where he\u00b4s a.o. been interviewed by Piers Morgan at CNN and made an apprearance on David Letterman\u00b4s Late Show. And who hasn\u00b4t seen some version of Bubba Watson\u00b4s infamous handshake?<\/p>\n

South-African\u00a0Louis Oosthuizen <\/strong>played\u00a0some fabulous golf at the Maybank Malaysian Open, which is part of the European Tour, the tournament taking place April 12th – April 15th and finishing yesterday. Oosthuizen won after having shot that remarkable double eagle at the final round at the Masters, lost in the playoff but subsequently flew half around the world to win the much weather delayed \u00a0Maybank Malaysian Open, jet lagged and tired. What an incredible golfer!<\/p>\n

And then Swede Carl Petterson<\/strong> won his 5th victory on the PGA yesterday when he stood victorious at the RBC Heritage with a 5 stroke lead on Zach Johnson<\/strong> from the US. What\u00b4s next on this week on the PGA is the Valero Texas Open, which will be held at TPC San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Women\u00b4s Golf<\/em><\/p>\n

But what about women\u00b4s golf? \u00a0Another LPGA tournament doesn\u00b4t start until this coming Wednesday, in Hawaii. Then the LPGA ladies will tee off at the newly revived Lotte tournament in Oahu. The next LET tournament on the other hand isn\u00b4t until May 3rd, i.e. the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.<\/p>\n

What didn\u00b4t get much coverage last week, except maybe in Iceland was the Dinard Ladies Open, held in Saint Briac Sur Mer, France, which is a tournament on the LET Access Tour (the 2nd tier tour to LET, similar to the Futures\/Symetra Tour to the LPGA or the Nationwide Tour to the PGA).<\/p>\n

Carly Booth<\/strong>\u00a0from Scotland won her maiden victory on the Dinard golfcourse, which is the 2nd oldest golfcourse in France, designed by fellow Scot Tom Dunn. Seems like Carly felt good on the old links! She beat French golfer Marion Ricordeau<\/strong>, who had been leading the whole tournament in a 1 hole playoff, when she birdied the 18th.<\/p>\n

The reason the Dinard Ladies Open got so much attention in Iceland is the participation of an Icelandic professional golfer\u00a0Tinna J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, who is aiming for status on the Ladies European Tour. Tinna is a graduate from the University of San Francisco and a member of Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Iceland (you can see a video clip introducing Golf Club Keilir by clicking HERE:\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tinna wants to follow in the footsteps of her Club Compatriot, \u00d3l\u00f6f Mar\u00eda J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, the only Icelandic woman to have gotten her card on LET.<\/p>\n

Tinna a.o. took part in the LET Q-school earlier this year and made it to the final stage, but unfortunately went no further this time. \u00a0This season she will therefore be playing in tournaments on the LET Access Series and on the Icelandic Golf Tour.<\/p>\n

Tinna didn\u00b4t fare so well in her first tournament on the LET Access series, the Dinard Ladies Open, as she didn\u00b4t make the cut – but tomorrow is another day … and her next tournament will be a tournament which is held in cooperation between the Banesto Tour in Zaragoza and the LET Access Series, at C.G. La Pe\u00f1aza, Zaragoza, Spain. \u00a0Golf 1 will be following \u00a0Tinna closely this coming summer.
